Daytona Beach, FL - Former Virginia golfer Leah Wigger earned her playing card for the 2009 LPGA Tour today by claiming the final spot in a sudden-death playoff at Q-School. Only the top 20 finishers from the field of 140 competitors at the LPGA’s Final Qualifying Tournament attain Tour status. Q-School included 90 holes of competition over five days at the LPGA International Champions Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Wigger, and three other players, were tied for the final two spots following Sunday’s final round. Chella Choi, of South Korea, birdied the first playoff hole to claim the first available spot. On the second playoff hole, Wigger made a 10-foot birdie putt to defeat Allison Hanna-Williams of Oregon and Nari Kim of South Korea for the final spot.

Wigger had rounds of 70, 75, 66, 72 and 73 to finish at 4-uder 356.

“Yes, I felt a little pressure, but I knew that putt was moving left and I said, If it goes in, it goes in,' and it did,” Wigger told LPGA.com. “I got it done.”

This year Wigger played on both the Duramed FUTURES Tour and the LPGA Tour this as a non-exempt LPGA member. In April on the Duramed FUTURES Tour, Wigger won her first tournament as a professional at LPGA International's Legends Course.
“I know that anything can happen in a playoff,” Wigger said. “But I came here this week with a good feeling and it turned out that way.”
