CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia women's lacrosse team (0-0) will begin the 2017 season Saturday (Feb. 11) when it hosts Elon (1-0) at 1 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

In the preseason polls, the Cavaliers are ranked No. 14 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and No. 13 in the Cascade/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll. UVA was picked to finish tied for fifth in the ACC Preseason Poll.

Saturday's game will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra and can be viewed through ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app. Links for the stream as well as live stats are available on Virginiasports.com.

Virginia returns eight starters from last season, highlighted by preseason All-ACC senior defender Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.). Preas, along with junior goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) and sophomore defender Kaitlin Luzik (Alexandria, Va.) were honored with Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Team selections.

Offensively, junior Kasey Behr (North Port, N.Y.) and senior Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) are back after leading the Cavaliers with 41 points apiece in 2016. Behr had a team-high 38 goals and was second on the team with 36 draw controls.

The Cavaliers are 32-9 in season openers and 9-1 in those held at Klöckner. Head coach Julie Myers is entering her 22nd season and is 15-6 in those games.

This will be the first meeting between Virginia and Elon.

Elon won its season opener against Campbell, 15-5. Stephanie Asher was named the CAA Player of the Week after scoring five goals and four draw controls in the win. Asher is the leading scorer from a season ago, tallying 44 goals.

Virginia will host Wales in a scrimmage on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium before traveling down the road to Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a 5 p.m. opening draw at Robins Stadium.
