CHARLOTTESVILLE - The No. 6 Virginia women's lacrosse team (2-2, 0-0 ACC) closes out the weekend by hosting No. 10 Penn State (2-1, 0-0 BigTen) on Sunday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.
NOTE:Because of the women's basketball game on Sunday, parking will not be available at JPJ Arena. The lot at University Hall and the Cage Lot will be available on a first come, first served basis. See this Parking Map for more details.
The Nittany Lions will be the fourth top-10 team faced by the Cavaliers in the first five games of the season. Virginia defeated No. 6 Loyola, 10-9, before falling to No. 2 Syracuse, 10-9, and No. 1 Maryland, 18-10.
Penn State fell to Loyola, 13-11, on Feb. 23. Virginia will be the second ranked opponent of the season for the Nittany Lions. Virginia holds an 18-15 advantage in the all-time series, but is 8-9 against Penn State in Charlottesville. UVa has won six of the last seven meetings, but fell in Happy Valley last year, 14-7.
The Nittany Lions had ten different players score in its 16-9 victory over Duquesne. Maggie McCormick paced the team with six points, including a career-high five assists. Mackenzie Cyr and Kelly Lechner, scored three goals apiece.
In Virginia's home opener against No. 1 Maryland, Casey Bocklet (So., South Salem, N.Y.) added four goals to her team-leading total, giving her 11 this season. Ashlee Warner (Jr., Corning, N.Y.), who leads the team with 15 points, had her second hat trick of the season with three goals and an assist.
Midfielder Lauren Goerz (Jr., Danville, Ca.) got her first start of the season against Maryland, causing a pair of turnovers.
Morgan Stephens (So. Olney, Md.), who scored the Cavaliers' tenth goal of the game, was also the leader on the draw, controlling four.
Daniela Eppler (So., Baltimore, Md.) got three ground balls, giving her a team-high eight on the season.
Virginia will return to ACC action on Saturday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. when they take on No. 3 North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Virginia returns home for a pair of Spring Break contests, hosting William & Mary on Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. and Princeton on Saturday, March 16 at 12 p.m. The Princeton contest is part of a double header with the Virginia men's lacrosse team hosting Ohio State at 3:00 p.m.
Single-game tickets to Virginia lacrosse games are $10 (reserved seating), $8 (adult general admission) and $6 (youth, senior, faculty/staff general admission).
