CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 9 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (4-0) hosts No. 5 Syracuse (3-0) in its Atlantic Coach Conference home opener on Sunday (March 4) at Noon at Klöckner Stadium.

PROMOTIONS
Sunday will be a double-header with the Virginia men’s lacrosse team. Fans can use their ticket for either game to get into both contest.

CAVALIER TIDBITS

  • Virginia is 4-0 to start the season, marking its best start since 2009. The Cavaliers picked up a 16-5 mid-week win over William & Mary on Wednesday night.
  • Senior Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) leads UVA with 13 goals this season. Sophomore Sammy Mueller (Pelham, N.Y.) leads the Cavaliers with 16 points (11 goals, five assists). Junior Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) has 14 points (eight goals, six assists), 12 draw controls and 12 ground balls.
  • UVA ranks first in the ACC in saves percentage (.544), scoring defense (6.50) and ground balls per game (22.50).
  • Senior goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) has an ACC-leading 6.12 goals against average, with a .577 saves percentage. Junior Kaitlin Luzik (Alexandria, Va.) is tops in the ACC with 2.50 caused turnovers per game.

LOOKING AT SYRACUSE
Syracuse has won all three games to start the season, most recently defeating Albany, 19-12, on Feb. 22. The Orange has scored 17 or more goals in all three games and currently lead the nation in scoring offense with 19.67 goals per game. Emily Hawryschuk leads Syracuse with 10 goals. Taylor Gait and Alie Jimerson are second on the team with nine points apiece. Julie Cross leads with 12 draws and Jimerson adds a team-high six caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Asa Goldstock has a 6.79 goals against average with 21 saves and a team-high eight ground balls. 

SERIES INFO
Virginia has an 11-10 edge in the series over Syracuse. The Orange have won nine consecutive games over UVA. The Cavaliers lead Syracuse 5-4 in games in Charlottesville. Virginia and Syracuse met twice in 2017, with the Orange taking both meetings, including a 15-12 win in the ACC Semifinals.
