On Wednesday, April 17, the six fourth-years on the Virginia women's lacrosse team will be honored on Senior Night. Here is a brief look at their Cavalier careers.
Lelan Bailey - Lelan transferred to Virginia from Florida, joining the Cavaliers in her junior season. She made an immediate impact on defense, starting 18 of 19 games her first season while tallying 13 ground balls, causing seven turnovers and winning nine draw controls. This year, she has played in 13 games, rounding up 14 ground balls, winning 13 draws, and causing three turnovers. At last year's All-Sports Banquet, she was named as the recipient of the Ralph Sampson Scholarship, a scholarship awarded annually to a third-year student who best demonstrates excellence in academics, leadership, and athletics.
Megan Dunleavy - Megan is one of the two captains on this year's team. She was honored in the preseason by being named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award watch list, a who's-who of the top lacrosse players in the nation. She is a two-time member of the All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll and was a 2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Week award winner. In her four-year career, she has tallied 53 ground balls, caused 25 turnovers, and won 17 draw controls.
Kim Kolarik - Kim has played 54 games in goal in her four-year Cavalier career, saving 320 shots. She had a strong junior season, posting a 10-7 record and saving 40.5 percent of the shots she faced and holding opponents to 10.12 goals per game. It was during that same 2012 season that she became the first Cavalier to earn three ACC Defensive Player of the Week awards in a year. Right before the start of this season, she was named to the 2013 Tewaaraton Award watch list.
Erin Laschinger - Erin has appeared in 11 games in her four year Cavalier career. In her first season as a Virginia attacker, she scored a goal against George Mason and had an assist against William & Mary. She also had a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover during the 2010 campaign. This year, she has appeared in three games, taking a shot and causing a turnover.
Caroline McTiernan - Caroline is one of the captains on this year's team and has been a constant in the starting lineup, starting every game this season. She has put up the best numbers of her career on attack, scoring 18 goals with three assists, including scoring the game winner in three of the Cavaliers' seven victories this season. McTiernan had the third hat trick of her career, scoring three goals last Thursday against Johns Hopkins.
Anne Thomas - Annie moved into the Cavaliers' starting lineup the last five games of her rookie campaign, scoring her first career hat trick in the ACC Tournament game against Virginia Tech. She had two hat tricks as a sophomore and one last season against Old Dominion. In her four seasons with the Cavaliers, the midfielder has scored 30 goals, logged four assists, won 27 draw controls, picked up 33 ground balls, and caused eight turnovers.
