CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 14 Virginia women’s lacrosse team (9-7, 3-3 ACC) closes out the regular season Saturday (April 22) when it hosts No. 19 Virginia Tech (11-6, 2-4 ACC) on Senior Day at 1 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.
Saturday will serve as Senior Day with Virginia honoring its six seniors, Besser Dyson (Alexandria, Va.), Maggie Preas (Rockville, Md.), Kelly Reese (Severna Park, Md.), Katherine Rueger (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.), Posey Valis (Baltimore, Md.) and Wyatt Whitley (Alexandria, Va.) prior to the game.
The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra and can be viewed through ESPN3 or the WatchESPN app. Links for the stream, as well as live stats, are available on VirginiaSports.com. It will also be a Sabre Rewards Event with five points and free Raising Cane’s chicken fingers for the first 200 students.
Virginia has won its last two games, including picking up an ACC win over Louisville 11-7 last Saturday. Sophomore Maggie Jackson (Alexandria, Va.) led the way with three goals, while Dyson dished out four assists with a goal to lead the Cavaliers with five points in the victory.
UVA scored two goals at the end of the half to cut Louisville’s lead to 6-5 at halftime. The Cavaliers then scored the first two goals in the second half and finished the game on a 4-0 run to take the win.
Virginia leads the all-time series 21-1 and has won four-straight over Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers are 11-0 in games played in Charlottesville. The last time the two teams met at Klöckner was in 2015 when UVA won 17-10. Last season, the No. 11 Cavaliers topped Virginia tech 14-7 in Blacksburg, Va.
Virginia Tech enters this game on a four game losing streak. In their last four games, the Hokies have faced tough ACC teams, two of them ending in overtime. The Hokies lead the ACC in scoring defense, holding teams to an average of 8.71 goals per game. Tristan McGinley leads the ACC in shot percentage, scoring 45 goals this season. Goalkeeper Meagh Graham is sixth in the NCAA with 120 saves, averaging 7.06 saves per game.

The bracket and seeds for the 2017 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be released following Saturday’s games. The championship will run from April 27-30 in Richmond, Va., at Richmond Sports Backers Stadium.
