CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia women's lacrosse team had five players earn Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-South Region honors with senior attacker Casey Bocklet (South Salem, N.Y.), redshirt senior attacker Liza Blue (Butler, Md.), senior defender Morgan Stephens (Olney, Md.) and senior attacker Courtney Swan (Vero Beach, Fla.) being named to the first team. Senior defender Kelsey Gahan (Cockeysville, Md.) earned second-team honors.
The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with a selection on one of the All-Regional teams for 2015. These student-athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams, which will be announced on Monday May 18. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on Saturday June 6, 2015 at the Radisson Hotel Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Casey Bocklet leads the ACC in points per game (4.05) and ranks second in assists per game (1.74) and 11th in goals per game (2.32). A member of the 2015 All-ACC First Team and a Tewaaraton Award nominee, Bocklet was just the ninth player in Virginia history to tally over 200 points in her career, finishing with 205. Bocklet also ranks fifth on the Virginia career assists list with 83. This season, the three-time ACC Player of the Week had a team-best 77 points with 44 goals and 33 assists. Bocklet earned IWLCA All-South Region Second Team honors in 2013.
Liza Blue scored a team-high 47 goals this season, ranking third with 60 points. Blue finished her career ranked seventh on the Virginia career goals list with 139. This season, Blue logged 12 hat tricks including back-to-back three-goal performances in UVa's NCAA Tournament games. This is her second-consecutive IWLCA All-South Region First Team honor.
Morgan Stephens followed up her 2015 Preseason All-ACC honors by being named to the All-ACC First Team in postseason honors. Stephens anchored the Cavalier defensive unit, picking up 19 ground balls with 14 caused turnovers. Stephens also tallied 30 draw controls, including winning nine in the victory over Navy. Stephens earned IWLCA All-South Region Second Team honors in 2013 and was named to the first team last season.
Courtney Swan leads the ACC in assists per game (1.84), and ranks fourth in draw controls (4.47) and ninth in points per game (3.47). The All-ACC Second Team honoree and Tewaaraton Award nominee was named the inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week (March 3) after scoring four goals with four assists and winning nine draws in the win at Penn State. Swan was also the recipient of a Weaver-James-Corrigan ACC Postgraduate Scholarship this season. Swan finished her Cavalier career ranked second in career draw controls (272) and ninth in assists (75). This is her second-consecutive IWLCA All-South Region First Team honor.
Kelsey Gahan was a co-captain this season for the Cavaliers, helping to anchor the Cavalier defense, tallying 20 ground balls with eight caused turnovers. Gahan also earned second-team All-Region honors her freshman season.
