Five Cavaliers Named to the All-ACC Academic Women's Lacrosse Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Five student-athletes from the Virginia women's lacrosse team have earned spots on the 2013 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Lacrosse Team, announced Wednesday by the conference.

Liza Blue (So., Butler, Md.), Megan Dunleavy (Sr, Fairfax Station, Va.), Daniela Eppler (So., Baltimore, Md.), Maddy Keeshan (Jr., Greenwich, Ct.) and Courtney Swan (So., Vero Beach, Fla.) were honored. Blue and Eppler were named to the team for the second time with Dunleavy earning her third honor.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Blue, a kinesiology major, scored 12 goals in the Cavaliers' five post-season games, including scoring a career-high four goals in the ACC Tournament first-round victory over Duke.

Dunleavy, an economics major, earned All-ACC honors and was named to the IWLCA All-South Region second team as the anchor of the Cavalier defense. Stephens, an IWLCA All-South Region second team selection, led the team with 29 ground balls and was second with 52 draw controls. Stephens tallied 30 points with 24 goals and six assists. Swan, a member of the All-ACC team, ranked third in the conference and 21st in the NCAA in draw controls, averaging 4.05 per game. She ranked third on the team in goals (28), assists (11) and points (39).

Eppler, an undeclared major, started all 21 games on defense, winning 31 draw controls, picking up 22 ground balls, and causing 13 turnovers. Eppler also scored a goal against Penn State and logged an assist at Old Dominion.

 

 

Keeshan, a history major, was named to the VaSID Women's Lacrosse All-State second team. The defender led the Cavaliers with 18 caused turnovers, also tallying 21 ground balls and 11 draw controls.

Swan, a kinesiology major, earned All-ACC honors this season after ranking third in the conference and 21st in the NCAA in draw controls, averaging 4.05 per game. Swan ranked third on the team in goals (28), assists (11) and points (39).
