CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
Virginia women's lacrosse coach Julie Myers announced that Kasey Behr, Lilly DiNardo, Ana Hagerup, Meghan Heick, Daniela Kelly, Rachel Vander Kolk and Jacqueline Wasilko have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Cavaliers beginning with the 2014-15 season.
"We are super excited about the 2014 recruiting class," Myers said. "I think they are the top of the high school game and have been since tenth and eleventh grade. I truly believe all of them are going to have strong senior seasons this spring and will carry that momentum into the UVa program when they arrive next fall."
Kasey Behr (Northport, N.Y.) plays midfield/attack at St. Anthony's, with the squad earning a top-10 national ranking. Behr was selected to play in the Under Armour Underclassmen games, representing Long Island, and earning all-tournament team honors. As a member of the Yellow Jackets in 2011, she was named to the Lacrosse Magazine All-Tournament Team at the U.S. Lacrosse Girls' Under-15 National Championships, where her squad won the title.
"Kasey Behr is as tough as nails, a big strong, kid with a great head on her shoulders," Myers said. "She is a leader on her high school team and has been for years. She plays for one of the best club teams in the country and is a leader for them as well. I am really looking for toughness, grit and leadership coming out of Kasey."
Lilly DiNardo (Salisbury, Md.) is a three-sport standout, also playing soccer and basketball at Worcester Prep. She was named a U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American in 2013 and was also the Eastern Shore Independent Athletic Conference (ESIAC) Player of the Year in 2013. She finished her junior year with 126 career goals.
"Lily DiNardo is a proven athlete in every sport that she has played and is constantly at the top of the leaderboard in all of her sports," Myers said. "She is a natural athlete and has easy speed. It looks effortless for her to break away from her opponents."
Ana Hagerup (Washington, D.C.), who will play attack and defense for the Cavaliers, earned all-league honors in both lacrosse and basketball at Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School. Hagerup played with the DC Metro team in the Under Armour All-America Underclassmen Tournament. As a member of the Capital Club in 2011, she was named to the Lacrosse Magazine All-Tournament Team at the US Lacrosse Girls' Under-15 National Championships, where her squad won the title.
"Being a good basketball player in addition to being a lacrosse player has helped Ana see the field really well and understand where to defend," Myers said. "She could play anywhere on the field in terms of being a true defender and a true attacker, and could even take some draws. She has great size, soft hands and a high IQ for the game."
Meghan Heick (Centreville, Va.) is a midfielder at Westfield High. She was a 2013 US Lacrosse Academic All-American and an all-region honoree.
"Meghan Heick is super fast, has great hands and is hard to stop," Myers said. "She came to use late in the recruiting game, but has just lit it up on the high school scene and will be a true middie for us. She is still growing as a lacrosse player and has done a great job on every field so far."
Daniela Kelly (Rumson, N.J.) plays midfield and defense for The Peddie School's lacrosse team as well as playing goalie on the soccer team. For lacrosse, she earned 2011 All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League and All-Trentonian Lacrosse Team honors, as well as being a 2012 Under Armour Lacrosse Underclass All American-NJ. Tournament Finalist. In soccer, she was a 2011 New Jersey Prep A and Mid-Atlantic Prep League Soccer first-team member and 2012 All-Mercer County first-team honoree.
"Daniela Kelly is well-trained athlete in every sport that she plays," Myers said. "She really loves defense and making stops. She has a lot of talent and potential and already has had great success while still having some room to grow."
Rachel Vander Kolk (Severna Park, Md.) helped her Severna Park High squad win back-to-back state championships in 2011-12. The goalkeeper is a member of the National Honor Society and will be in the school of engineering.
"Rachel Vander Kolk plays on a great high school team, making a huge difference on that squad as well as on her club team," Myers said. "She is incredibly smart, driven, competitive and has a very easy demeanor about her."
Jacqueline Wasilko (Manorville, N.Y.) is a defensive midfielder at Eastport-South Manor High School where she earned scholar-athlete honors. She also played for the Long Island Top Guns club team.
"Jacqueline Wasilko comes with some true athleticism and has a lot of potential," Myers said. "She will use her speed and guts to really shake things up and make things happen."
The 2014 Cavaliers have nine seniors on the roster including attacker Liza Blue, midfielder Dana Boyle, goalkpeeper Liz Colgan, midfielder Christie Donovan, midfielder Maddy Fabiani, midfielder Lauren Goerz, defender Maddy Keeshan, midfielder Leigh Ruland and attacker Ashlee Warner.
