Cavaliers' top crew defeats six top boats from ranked teams
2011-12 • Part of the Third Varsity Eight that won the Eastern Sprints • Competed at the UVa Invitational and Oak Ridge Invitational 2010-11 • Participated in the Coach for College" program in Summer 2011, which places college athletes in Vietnamese villages to work with local children • Named to the NCAA Championships roster • Rowed with the Open Four that won its grand final and heat at the Oak Ridge Invitational • Member of the Second Varsity Four that defeated Texas and Michigan State at Lake Monticello
2009-10 • Traveled to the NCAA Championships and competed in the spare pair race • Part of the Open Four `A' that finished second in the grand final at South/Central Regionals • Rowed with the Varsity Four that defeated Penn in the regular-season finale • Member of the Open Four that won its race at the ACC Championships • Defeated Michigan and Ohio State with the Varsity Four at Lake Monticello • Competed with the Second Varsity Eight `B' at the San Diego Crew Classic
High School • Team captain of the Maritime Rowing Club in 2009 • Competed in the 2008 and 2009 Junior World Championships in the four • Rowed in Berlin in 2007 with the United States High Performance Team • Also played basketball in high school • A founding member of the non-profit organization, The Get In Touch Foundation, a foundation dedicated to teaching young girls the importance of breast self exams
Personal • Parents are Gregory and Mary Ann Nilan • Has a brother, Eddy, and a sister, Mary • Sister Mary is a third-year on the UVa rowing team
