OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--The Virginia rowing team swept 21 races at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational to open the 2014 spring season this weekend (March 15-16) on Melton Hill Lake.

"We had a good start to the racing season this weekend," UVa head coach Kevin Sauer said. "Everyone raced hard and also learned a lot this weekend. We brought the Novice Eight at the last minute and the entire team was really excited for them as they raced well in their first regatta for UVa. A big thank you to the University of Louisville and the Oak Ridge Rowing Association for hosting a great weekend of racing."

The Cavaliers picked up three wins each for the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Eight, Novice Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four. UVa won five races against Minnesota on Saturday morning, six against ACC newcomer Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon and six against Louisville and Michigan State on Sunday.

UVa's 3V8 took down Louisville, Notre Dame and West Virginia on Saturday morning, while the N8 defeated Alabama, Tennessee and Dayton. The Cavalier Novice Eight also picked up wins against Michigan State, Louisville and Tennessee on Saturday afternoon and Notre Dame, MSU and Duke on Sunday.
