PRINCETON, N.J. - The 11th-ranked Virginia women's rowing team won two of six races against top-ranked Princeton University and fourth-ranked Yale University on Saturday, April 15. The Cavaliers defeated the Spartans and Tigers in the second varsity four and second varsity eight races. Princeton won the remaining competitions. The regatta took place on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J.

In the second varsity four competition, Virginia's "A" and "B" crews finished first and second, respectively. UVa's "A" crew finished in 7:43.7, followed by the Cavalier "B" boat in 7:45.9. Princeton came in third with a time of 7:48.0, followed by Yale in fourth (8:00.6).

Virginia's second varsity four "A" crew included Sorelle Williams (coxswain), Valerie Morini, Adrienne Egge, Lindsey Fletcher, and Sarah Blair. The "B" boat included Taylor Gilmore (coxswain), Megan Haughs, Liz Welsh, Allison Brennan, and Kirsten Graslie.

The Cavaliers also won the second varsity eight competition with a time of 6:32.9. Yale finished second (6:37.0), followed by Princeton in third (6:43.0).

Caitlin Mixter (coxswain), Renee Albers, Mindy Fiesler, Bridget Fowler, Katrin Sydlik, Kelsie Chaudoin, Crystal MacLeod, Anna Samaha, and Mieke Pitts manned Virginia's second varsity eight boat.

 

 

Princeton won the second novice four competition, defeating Virginia with a time of 7:54.4. The Cavaliers finished in 8:04.8.

The Tigers also won the first novice eight race, finishing with a time of 6:40.2. Yale finished second (6:53.3), followed by Virginia in third (7:10.5).

UVa finished third in the varsity four competition with a time of 7:36.0. The Tigers and Bulldogs finished the race with times of 7:27.9 and 7:33.2, respectively.

Princeton's top-ranked first varsity eight boat won its competition with a time of 6:15.1. Yale came in second (6:24.2), followed by the Cavaliers in third (6:32.7).

The next regatta for the UVa women's rowing team is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, when Virginia travels to Clemson, S.C. to compete in the ACC Championships.
