UVA Alumni Sets Course Record at HOCR

BOSTON, Mass. - Virginia's Alumni Eight set a course record to highlight Cavalier action at the 53rd Head of The Charles Regatta this weekend in Boston.

On Saturday (Oct. 21), the UVA Alumni Eight of coxswain Colette Lucas-Conwell ('17), Erin Briggs ('17), Georgia Ratcliff ('17), Christine Roper ('11), Susanne Grainger ('13), Kristine O'Brien ('13), Catherine Multari ('14), Ellen Pate ('17) and bow Sam Casto ('16) raced to a record time of 15:48.524. The 5,000-meter course featured seven bridges, multiple turns and passing in a head-race format. UVA's Second Alumni Eight placed 10th.

On Sunday (Oct. 22), UVA's Varsity Eight finished fourth among collegiate boats and ninth overall with a time of 15:27.285. Washington (15:03.829) was the top collegiate crew followed by Stanford (15:11.518) and Yale (15:23.480). UVA's Second Varsity Eight placed 20th overall and 15th among collegiate crews (second among 2V8 boats).

The Cavaliers continue their fall season at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday, Oct. 29.
