The University of Virginia women's rowing team placed second and fourth in the open eight event, and third in the open four competition at the Princeton Chase on Sunday (October 30). The regatta was hosted by Princeton University on Lake Carnegie.
The Princeton "A" crew finished first in the open eight competition with a time of 14:53.42. Virginia's "A" boat placed second (15:20.44), with Brown finishing third (15:31.60). UVa's "B" boat finished fourth (15:40.43), Virginia's "C" boat finished 13th (16:06.13), and the Cavaliers' "D" boat came in 33rd (17:00.79). Forty-three crews raced in the competition.
Virginia's "A" boat was comprised of Katie Hilton (coxswain), Ashley Jones, Libby McCann, Andria Haneman, Yvonne Epp, Kerry Maher, Katrin Sydlik, Sara Lippa, and Melanie Kok. Members of the Cavaliers' "B" boat included Michelle Ellison (coxswain), Mindy Fiesler, Mieke Pitts, Heather Gardner, Valerie Morini, Anna Samaha, Crystal MacLeod, Allison Brennan, and Chrissie Monaghan.
The open four event was won by Princeton's "B" boat with a time of 16:36.96. Princeton's "A" boat finished second (16:39.64), followed by Virginia's "B" boat in third (17:11.27). The Cavaliers' "A" boat finished seventh (17:32.58), UVa's "C" crew was 21st (18:04.56), and Virginia's "D" boat came in 22nd (18:07.08). There were 43 crews in the event.
Michelle Ellison (coxswain), Mindy Fiesler, Mieke Pitts, Heather Gardner, and Chrissie Monaghan manned Virginia's "B" boat in the open four competition.
The Cavaliers will complete their fall competition on November 13 when Virginia hosts the Rivanna Romp Regatta on the Rivanna Reservoir.
