INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Virginia women's rowing team's first varsity eight is ranked 11th in the nation in the first USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll of the 2003 season.

The University of Washington is ranked first in the poll followed by Princeton, Stanford, California-Berkeley, Michigan, Brown, Southern California, Yale, Michigan State, Ohio State and Virginia.

Virginia's first varsity eight crew is 2-3 this spring. The Cavaliers defeated Columbia and San Diego State at the Rivanna Reservoir on March 15 before losing to Stanford, California-Berkeley and Southern California at the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic (March 29-30) in Redwood Shores, Calif.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to compete against Michigan and Ohio State at the ACC/Big Ten Dual Regatta in Columbus, Ohio, on April 12.

Virginia's novice crews and second varsity four crew are scheduled to compete at the Occoquan Sprints in Springfield, Va., on April 6.
