CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The 11th-ranked and six-time defending ACC champion Virginia women's rowing team will compete at the 2006 ACC Rowing Championship on Saturday, April 22. The regatta will be raced on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C. Five other ACC teams are scheduled to compete at the event- Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Miami, and North Carolina. The 2006 regatta will be the first ACC Championship to feature six schools, as Boston College enters the competition this year.

The Cavaliers start competition with the varsity four race at 9 a.m. The novice eight event begins at 9:20 a.m., followed by the second varsity eight competition at 9:40 a.m. The Virginia varsity eight boat will conclude competition at 10 a.m.

Virginia won the 2005 ACC Championship, winning three out of four races. Clemson finished second at the regatta, followed by Duke, Miami, and North Carolina.

UVa enters the competition after competing against top-ranked Princeton and third-ranked Yale in Princeton, N.J. on April 15. Virginia is the only ranked team competing in Saturday's conference competition. Virginia has won six consecutive ACC championship titles.
