CHARLOTTESVILLE - The fifth-ranked Virginia rowing team heads to Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Sunday (May 15) to compete at the Oak Ridge Invitational. Races on Melton Lake begin at 9 a.m.

Along with Virginia, nine other schools are competing - No. 11 Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Miami, No. 20 Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tulsa and UCF.

Heats will take place in the following events: Open Four (9 a.m.), Varsity Four (9:20 a.m.), Second Varsity Eight (9:40 a.m.) and Varsity Eight (10 a.m.) with the top three boats from each heat advancing to the grand final and places fourth through sixth going to the petite final. A Third Varsity Eight (final only) race will take place at 12:30 p.m., before the finals begin at 12:40 p.m.

Virginia was last in action on April 30 at Princeton, rowing against the top-ranked Tigers, No. 19 Tennessee and Columbia. UVa's Varsity Four came up with a victory and was subsequently named the Atlantic Coast Conference Crew of the Week.

The Varsity Four has won seven races so far this spring, matching the total of UVa's Second Varsity Eight. In its last race, the Second Varsity Eight was three seconds behind No. 1 Princeton to finish second.

Virginia's Varsity Eight has won five races this season - all against ranked opponents.

Prior to competing at Princeton, Virginia swept all four races at the ACC Championships to earn its 11th conference title (April 23).

The Oak Ridge Invitational will be the last regular-season competition before the field for the 2011 NCAA Championships is announced on Tuesday (May 17) at 5 p.m.
