Ratcliff Named ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia's Georgia Ratcliff (Falls Church, Va.) was named ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday (June 28). In addition, Ratcliff was joined on the All-ACC Academic Rowing team by five other UVA rowers.

Ratcliff, who graduated with a degree in economics and foreign affairs, is a two-time All-American who is making her fourth appearance on the All-ACC Academic team. Rowing in the five seat of UVA's Varsity Eight, Ratcliff, rowing the in the five seat of UVA's Varsity Eight, led the Cavaliers to their eighth consecutive ACC championship and 17th overall in the 18 years of the event. Ratcliff helped UVA's Varsity Eight to a 10th-place finish at this year's NCAA Championship as the Cavaliers finished 11th nationally as a team.

UVA rowers Erin Briggs (Orono, Minn.), Jane Hudson (Sandy, Utah), Allie Nicholson (Charlottesville, Va.), Ellen Pate (Lafayette, Calif.) and Grace Tuttle (Vienna, Va.) joined Ratcliff on the All-ACC Academic Rowing team.

Ratcliff joined former Cavaliers Tessa Dikkers (2016), Sarah Coburn (2013), Sarah Borchelt (2012 & 2011), Jennifer Cromwell (2010) and Kelsie Chaudoin (2008) as ACC scholar-athletes of the year.

To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the winter semester and have maintained a 3.0 career GPA at their respective schools. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Rowing Academic team.


 

 

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
