Kelsie Chaudoin Named ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. Virginia’s Kelsie Chaudoin was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year and eight Cavaliers were named to the ACC All-Academic team, the conference announced today.

Chaudoin (Germantown, Tenn.) was a first team All-American in 2008 by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), helping to lead Virginia to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. A three-time member of the ACC’s Crew of the Year, Chaudoin is a Dean’s List student and a four-time member of the ACC’s Honor Roll. She is the inaugural recipient of the ACC Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

Joining Chaudoin on the ACC All-Academic rowing team are Annie Bohlen (Boiling Springs, Pa.), Schafer Bomstein (Washington, D.C.), Allison Brennan (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Mary Eddy (Arlington, Va.), Diane Leigh (Maitland, Fla.), Caitlin Mixter (Oakton, Va.) and Bridget Wandelt (Fairfax, Va.).

Bohlen was a member of the Second Varsity Eight that finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, second at the South/Central Regional Championships and won the ACC Championship. A rising senior at UVa, she is majoring in neuroscience.

Bomstein rowed with the Varsity Four that finished as runner-up at the NCAA Championships and the South/Central Regional Championships. A foreign affairs major, she graduated this May.

Brennan was a member of the Varsity Four that won the 2008 ACC Championship and was runner-up at the NCAA Championships and the South/Central Regional Championships. A senior psychology major, she was also a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete in 2008.

Eddy, the coxswain of the Second Varsity Eight, was a 2008 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete in addition to being named a recipient of the ACC’s Weaver James Corrigan Award. A team captain, Eddy’s Second Varsity Eight finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, second at the South/Central Regional Championships and first at the ACC Championships. Eddy graduated with a degree in human biology.

Leigh was a member of the Varsity Four that finished second at the NCAA Championships and won the ACC Championship. A chemistry major, she was selected as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete in 2008.

Mixter, the Varsity Eight’s coxswain, was a three-time All-ACC selection and CRCA All-South Region first team member. A CRCA National Scholar-Athlete, Mixter was a member of the ACC Crew of the Year that won South/Central Regional and ACC Championships. Mixter graduated with a degree in religious studies.

Wandelt, an All-ACC selection, graduated with a degree in environmental science. As a member of the Varsity Eight, she finished eighth at the NCAA Championships and won the South/Central Regional Championship and ACC Championship. She was selected a 2008 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete.

To be nominated for the ACC All-Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the winter semester and maintained a 3.0 career GPA at their respective schools.

Virginia wrapped up another successful season with a fifth-place team finish at the NCAA Championships and ninth-straight ACC title. The Cavaliers also won the overall and region titles at the South/Central Regional Championships. Three UVa rowers were named All-Americans and five were designated as All-ACC selections.
