CHARLOTTESVILLE--The University of Virginia women's rowing team has scheduled tryouts for September 2-6. Tryout practices are scheduled for 3:45 p.m., 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. each day from Tuesday through Thursday (Sept. 2-4). Final testing is scheduled for Friday (Sept. 5) at 5:15 p.m. and Saturday (Sept. 6) at 9:00 a.m. All of the sessions will be held in the Cage in Onesty Hall (located next to University Hall).

Any individual interested in participating in the tryouts should pick a time from Tuesday through Thursday that works best. Participants should bring a bottle of water, sneakers and an insurance card. A doctor's letter clearing the individual to participate in the tryout is also needed and can be faxed to Kara DeFilippi in the rowing office (434/982-4926) Questions concerning the tryout can be e-mailed to DeFilippi at kara@virginia.edu.

Each year several walk-ons with little or no rowing experience join the Virginia team and make significant contributions to the team's success. Last season more than half the team was comprised of walk-ons, and the Cavaliers won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and finished sixth at the NCAA Championships.
