CHARLOTTESVILLE - The University of Virginia women's rowing team opens its fall season at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday (October 23). The regatta, the world's largest two-day rowing event, is held on the Charles River in Boston, Mass.

The Head of the Charles, now in its 41st year, features over 24 different race events and 7,000 rowers from the youth, collegiate, and senior levels. The Cavaliers are scheduled to compete in the championship four, championship eight, and youth eight events. Virginia finished fourth in the youth eight at last year's competition.

The Cavaliers finished second in the team competition at the 2005 NCAA Championships held in Rancho Cordova, Calif., in May. Virginia's varsity four and second varsity eight boats finished first in their respective events at the competition.
