CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia women's rowing team opens the fall portion of its 2004-05 schedule on Sunday (Oct. 24) at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass. The Cavaliers are scheduled to have crews compete in the championship eight, the championship four and the youth eight events.

Often referred to as "America's Fall Rowing Festival," the Head of the Charles Regatta is the world's largest two day rowing event, hosting over 7,000 athletes competing in 24 events. The regatta is comprised of head races in which crews start 15 seconds apart at the Boston University boathouse and race a distance of three miles down the Charles River. This is the 40th Head of the Charles Regatta. More information on the event can be found at www.hocr.org.

Virginia finished tied for sixth in the team competition and UVa's varsity four crew won the NCAA Championship in that event in May at the 2004 NCAA Rowing Championships in Rancho Cordova, Calif.
