Cavaliers Host Rivanna Romp on Sunday

Nov. 11, 2016

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Virginia rowing team concludes its 2016 fall schedule on Sunday morning (Nov. 13) by hosting the annual Rivanna Romp on the Rivanna Reservoir in Earlysville, Va.

Admission is free to the public. Action begins at 10 a.m. with the Varsity Eights, followed by the Varsity Four boats at 11:30 a.m. Boats will go off one at a time, about 10-15 seconds apart, in a time trial to determine the winners.

The Cavaliers will compete against crews from Clemson, Columbia, Duke, Louisville and Pennsylvania. Virginia has captured the last 10 Varsity Eight races at the Romp, while the UVA Varsity Four has won eight of the last nine races.

Free parking is available at the Thomas Temple Allan Boathouse on the west bank of the Rivanna Reservoir. The boathouse is the closest point spectators can see the boats along the 4,000-meter course.

Last time out, the Cavaliers placed second at the Princeton Chase with a time of 14:21.485. UVA's Second Varsity Eight placed seventh at 14:52.926. The Cavaliers' Third Varsity Eight (15:25.096) and Fourth Varsity Eight (15:41.748) placed 21st and 28th, respectively, as Virginia had four of the top 28 boats.
