Jaime Frias Named Assistant Coach for U.S. U-20 National Team

Virginia assistant named to staff for upcoming FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup

Jaime Frias is in his fourth season on the Virginia women's soccer staff, his first as the volunteer assistant coach. He spent the previous three years at the program's Administrative Operations Assistant.

In his first season as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia, the Cavaliers posted a 24-1-1 record and reached the NCAA College Cup.

Frias came to Virginia with five years of Division I head coaching experience at Stephen F. Austin and Nevada. The 2005 Southland Conference Coach of the Year, he posted a 36-17-3 record at Stephen F. Austin from 2005-2007. He led the Ladyjacks to two regular season conference titles and the 2007 Southland Conference Tournament championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. From 2008-09, Frias was the head coach at Nevada. In his final season in Reno, he led the Wolf Pack to a school-record five WAC wins, tied the longest win streak in school history (five) and advanced to the final of the WAC Tournament. He has a career record of 49-33-6 as a collegiate head coach.

Frias began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Centenary, serving as an assistant coach from 2000-01 before serving as an assistant at Stephen F. Austin from 2002-04. He has also spent time as an Olympic Development Program (ODP) and high school coach.

Frias spent part of 2011-12 assisting Steve Swanson with the United States U-20 Women's National Team, serving as a Scout and Performance Analyst as the team won the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Japan.

A 2000 graduate of Centenary with a degree in health and physical education, Frias was a two-year captain on soccer field for the Gentlemen. He also played in Mexico in both the youth and professional ranks.

Frias and his wife Ta', the head women's track and field coach at James Madison, reside in Harrisonburg with their two children, Azari and Jaime Dhani.
