Women's Soccer Upsets University of Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. - Ninth-ranked University of Virginia handed third-ranked University of Portland a 1-0 loss in action Sunday at Merlo Field. With the victory, the Cavaliers remain undefeated and claimed the Adidas/Lady Fool Locker Classic Championship.

Virginia's lone goal came in the 80th minute when Angela Hucles drove the left flank and hit a right crossing pass deep in the penalty area. The cross slipped through the hands of Portland goalkeeper Angela Harrison and Cavalier mid fielder Jennifer Rawlings one-timed the loose ball from five yards.

Cavalier goalkeeper Megan Boehm needed only to make four saves to preserve the shutout.

Virginia is the only team other than North Carolina and Notre Dame to defeat the Pilots at home since Merlo Field opened in 1990.
