CHARLOTTESVILLE - The annual "Meet the Team Day" with the Virginia men's and women's soccer teams will held Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. The free event is the first chance for fans to meet the 2013 Cavalier squads.
In addition to autograph and photograph opportunities with both teams, there will be free food, a balloon artist, giveaways, soccer activities and more.
The Cavalier men's soccer team returns 18 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from last year's team that went 10-7-4 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. This year's home schedule begins Aug. 30 with a visit from future ACC member Louisville, a 2012 NCAA quarterfinalist. The 11-game home schedule also features five other 2012 NCAA Tournament teams: St. John's, VCU, Maryland, North Carolina and Boston College. Admission is free to the Cavaliers' preseason exhibition game against Radford on Aug. 20 at Klöckner Stadium.
The reigning ACC champion Virginia women's soccer team returns eight starters among 19 letterwinners from last year's squad that went 18-5-1 and reached the NCAA Round of 16 for the eighth consecutive season. The Cavaliers' 13-game home schedule begins on Aug. 23 with the inaugural Klöckner Classic as Virginia hosts VCU and reigning NCAA Champion North Carolina plays Santa Clara. NCAA runner-up Penn State and College Cup participant Florida State are also among the eight 2012 NCAA Tournament teams on Virginia's home schedule.
