CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 2 Virginia (8-1-0, 1-0-0 ACC) women's soccer team hits the road for a two-game road trip, kicking off at Miami (5-4-0, 0-1-0 ACC) on Thursday (Sept. 22) night at 7 p.m at Cobb Stadium.
Virginia and Miami will face each other for the first time since the 2014 season when the teams square-off on Thursday night. The Cavaliers won the last meeting 3-1 at Klöckner Stadium in 2014 and hold a 10-1-1 lead in the all-time series, including a 3-1 record at Miami.
It will be the first road contest in conference play for the Cavaliers this season and third road contest of the season for Virginia. Fans can follow the action online through live stats and the ACC Network Extra broadcast linked at VirginiaSports.com.
The Cavaliers are coming off a 2-0 victory over No. 17 Virginia Tech in the conference opener behind the play of reigning ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, Kristen McNabb (Montville, N.J.). The senior defender scored both goals in the win while helping lead a defense that allowed only six shots - one on goal - by the Hokies.
Virginia is led offensively by junior forward Veronica Latsko (Venetia, Pa.) with six goals on the season. The Cavaliers have scored 27 goals with 23 assists and average three goals per match on the season. Twelve different players have scored for Virginia this season, while 11 different players have tallied an assist as a part of the prolific offense.
Defensively, the Cavaliers have posted eight shutout victories and allowed only three goals through the nine matches this season - all three coming in the lone loss at nationally-ranked Georgetown. A veteran back-line that includes seniors Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va.), Tina Iordanou (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) and McNabb, and junior Megan Reid (Orinda, Calif.) combines with senior Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) in goal for Virginia.
Miami is coming off a tight contest at No. 3 Florida State in the opening weekend of conference play as the Hurricanes fell to the Seminoles 1-0. Kristina Fischer leads the offense with six goals, while Gracie Lachowecki has added five goals. Fischer also leads the team with five assists as the key cog in the Miami offense.
The Hurricanes have scored 20 goals on the year, while goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has allowed only five goals. Miami has posted five shutouts on the year, but been shutout in three of its four losses.
