CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 7 Virginia (12-3-2, 5-2-2 ACC) women’s soccer team closes out its regular season on Thursday night, traveling to face Louisville (7-6-4, 2-4-3 ACC) at 7 p.m. at the Lynn Soccer Stadium.

The Cavaliers are fighting for seeding in the upcoming ACC Tournament, having secured a spot in the event with a win over Boston College this past Sunday. Virginia can finish as high as second in the standings depending on the result of the final day’s matches throughout the league. The top four teams in the standings will host the ACC quarterfinal matches on Sunday, Oct. 30 on campus sites.

The ACC will announce the final seeds and which teams are hosting the quarterfinal matchups following the conclusion of the Thursday night matches.

Virginia is led offensively by senior midfielder Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) with 10 goals and six assists for 26 total points. She is one of 13 different players to score goals for the Cavaliers as Virginia has scored 43 goals on the season. Junior forward Veronica Latsko (Venetia, Pa.) and freshman forward Taylor Ziemer (Santa Rosa, Calif.) are second on the team with seven goals each this season.

Conversely, the Cavaliers have allowed only 11 goals this season and posted 10 shutouts, all victories for the Cavaliers.

The defensive production has come from a veteran back line that features seniors Meghan Cox (Springfield, Va.), Tina Iordanou (Upper Brookville, N.Y.), Kristen McNabb (Montville, N.J.) and junior Megan Reid (Orinda, Calif.). Senior Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) anchors the defense in goal.

Louisville is led offensively by Brooklynn Rivers with four goals and three assists for a total of 11 points on the season. The Cardinals have scored 26 goals this season while allowing 18 goals by opponents. The Cardinals have 14 different goal scorer, but only three have scored three or more goals in 2016.

Taylor Bucklin has started all 17 matches in goal for Louisville with three shutouts
