Morgan Reuther

Oct. 29, 2015

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Three members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were honored with selection to CoSIDA Academic All-District teams, the organization announced on Thursday (Oct. 29).

Senior forward Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) and junior goalkeeper Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District first team, while junior forward Morgan Reuther (Chantilly, Va.) earned second team selection.

By virtue of being selected for first team All-District honors, both Doniak and Stearns are now eligible for Academic All-America honors. To be nominated, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 GPA on a 4.0 scale and be at least a sophomore academically and completed at least one full year at the nominating institution.

Doniak holds a 3.38 GPA in Speech Pathology and Audiology and is one of the top performers for No. 1 Virginia in the final season of a standout career. Doniak set the school record for goals in a game at NC State, scoring four goals in the first half. She also took over sole possession of the career points record and holds 146 points in her career. She has scored seven goals on the season and needs just three more goals to become the all-time leading goal scorer at Virginia.

Stearns holds a 3.49 GPA in Inter-Media Studies and has posted a 7-1-1 record in goal for the Cavaliers this season. After coming off the bench in the first eight matches of the season as she rehabbed from injury, the keeper has found her groove and started eight consecutive matches. She has helped Virginia post nine shutout victories on the season, including six in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Reuther maintains a 3.57 GPA in Urban and Environmental Planning and has helped the Cavaliers to the top spot in the national ranking and claim the ACC regular season title. She is tied for the team lead with eight goals on the season, including a pair of game-winners. She also has a pair of assists on the way to 18 points on the season.

Virginia will return to action this weekend, closing out the regular season on the road at Pittsburgh. The Cavaliers and Panthers hit the pitch for a 7 p.m. kick on Saturday, Oct. 31.
