CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team hits the road to close out the regular season this weekend, traveling to face Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 31) and close out Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Virginia (14-1-1, 8-1-0 ACC) locked up the ACC regular-season championship and top seed in next week’s conference tournament with a 7-1 victory at NC State earlier this week. In that match, senior Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.) set the Virginia single-game record for goals with four in the first half. She also took over sole possession of the career points record with 146 for her career.

Doniak is part of a high-powered attack for the Cavaliers that are among the nation’s leaders in goals scored. Juniors Morgan Reuther (Chantilly, Va.) and Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) pace the offense with eight goals each, while Doniak is right behind them with seven goals on the year. To date, 14 different players have scored goals, while 15 different players have assisted on those goals. Seven different players have hit game-winning goals this season as the production has come from across the board.

Junior Morgan Stearns (San Antonio, Texas) has posted a 7-1-1 record in goal this season, helping the Cavaliers turn in nine clean sheets – six of those in ACC play. She combines with a stout defensive backline that features Hermann Trophy watch list member Emily Sonnett (Marietta, Ga.) and has allowed only nine goals on the season.

Pittsburgh (10-6-1, 4-5-0 ACC) is coming off a 4-2 loss on the road at Virginia Tech over the weekend. The Panthers have allowed 17 goals this season and score 17 goals. Jarena Harmon leads the way for Pittsburgh with seven goals, while Taylor Price is behind her with six goals. Ten different players have scored for the Panthers this season.
