CHARLOTTESVILLE - The top-seeded Virginia women's soccer team will host a NCAA Quarterfinal game for the first time since 1992 when it welcomes No. 11 Michigan to Klöckner Stadium Friday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and VirginiaSports.com will have live stats (GameTracker) and a free webcast of the contest.
Tickets are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth/student/senior citizen general admission. Tickets are also available at the gate beginning at 6 p.m.
On Friday, cash parking will be available for $5 in the University Hall, McCue Center and John Paul Jones Arena lots, and free parking will be available in the Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage.
The Cavaliers (23-1) are the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament and are looking for their second College Cup appearance. Virginia is playing in the quarterfinals for the fourth time in the past 12 seasons, but aims for its first trip to the semifinals since 1991. The Cavaliers, the nation's highest scoring team with 75 goals, has posted three shutouts to reach the Elite Eight, topping Saint Francis (5-0), Georgetown (1-0) and Wake Forest (2-0).
Michigan (18-3-1) has advanced the quarterfinals for the second time in program history (2002) and is looking for its first trip to the College Cup. The Wolverines have allowed only 10 goals all season and reached the quarterfinals with wins over Milwaukee (4-0), Illinois State (3-0) and Notre Dame (1-0). Michigan is led by Greg Ryan, who coached the United States Women's National Team from 2005-07.
Friday's quarterfinal marks the first all-time meeting between the Cavaliers and Wolverines. It is the third first-time opponent Virginia has played in this year's tournament (Saint Francis, Georgetown).
The Virginia-Michigan winner will play the winner of North Carolina and UCLA in the NCAA Women's College Cup in Cary, N.C. The semifinals are scheduled for Dec. 6, with the championship game on Dec. 8.
