ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Virginia junior midfielder Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) was named one of the three women's finalists for the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Thursday. Brian is the second Cavalier women's player to be named a finalist for the award, which is the most prestigious accolade in collegiate soccer.
Brian joins Abby Dahlkemper of UCLA and Crystal Dunn of North Carolina as this year's women's finalists. Patrick Mullins of Maryland, Harrison Shipp of Notre Dame and Leo Stolz of UCLA are the three men's finalists.
The finalists will be honored and the men's and women's winners will be announced at the Hermann Trophy banquet on January 10 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Brian was the leading scorer in the ACC this season with 46 points on 16 goals and a league-high 14 assists. A first-team NSCAA All-American, she tied the Virginia single-season assist record. Brian scored in all four of the Cavaliers' NCAA Tournament victories as she led the team to its first College Cup appearance in 22 years. Brian was a first-team All-ACC selection for the third consecutive season, in addition to being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and the All-NCAA Tournament Team. She has also made three appearances for the United States Women's National Team this year, scoring her first international goal on Sept. 3 against Mexico.
Last season, forward Caroline Miller became Virginia's first MAC Hermann Trophy finalist.
The Hermann Trophy is voted upon by NCAA Division I coaches who are NSCAA members. In addition, an online fan vote contributed to the selection process.
