Virginia Tops Central Michigan 3-1

TAMPA, Fla. - After losing nine games to rain, Virginia finally opened up its season with a 3-1 win over Central Michigan in the first game of the Speedline Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida.

After Central Michigan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Cavaliers took the lead with two unearned runs in the fourth inning. Mariruth Graham knocked in Tish Tablan with what proved to be the winning run.

The Cavaliers pushed across an insurance run in the fifth, when Stacy Holmes tripled, scoring Corinne Good. Chrissy Quinn (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K,) picked up the win in her first collegiate start.
