UVa Softball Earns Split With FSU
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Virginia softball team bounced back to defeat Florida State, 6-3, after being no-hit in the first game of the Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader played in Tallahassee. Florida State senior Kristy Fuentes held Virginia hitless over five innings as FSU won Game One 8-0.
Virginia never trailed in the second game after scoring a run in the top of the first inning. After FSU (31-14-1, 5-1 ACC) tied the score in their half of the first, Virginia (9-12, 2-4 ACC) countered with two runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Amy Peay (Richmond, Va.) sparked the UVa offense by going 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI single. Tish Tablan (Atlanta, Ga.) went 1-for-3 with two runs scored for Virginia.
Stacey Zagol was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst as she picked up the win after relieving Kristi Fox in the second inning. The six runs scored by UVa tied UVa's finest offensive output this season. UVa also tallied six runs in a 6-1 win over Indiana State on March 12.
Maryland comes to Charlottesville for Virginia's home opener on Tuesday, April 8. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 pm at The Park. Admission is free.
