Dennis, a two-time All-American, concluded her collegiate career in 2002 and is finishing up her bachelor's and master's degree in UVa's Curry School of Education. Dennis will earn her bachelor's degree in health and physical education and her master's degree in education in May of 2003.
She was named a second-team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American and a first-team All-Southeast Region pick in both 2001 and 2002. Dennis was a second-team All-Region selection in 1999. She is the first UVa player to earn All-Atlantic Coast Conference accolades four times and became only the second Cavalier to be named the ACC Player of the Year when she garnered that honor in 2002. In addition, Dennis was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference and the VaSID Player of the Year in 2002. She was also the VaSID Player of the Year in 2001. Dennis was the recipient of the Virginia Athletic Department's Distinguished Student-Athlete Scholarship Award and was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District III Softball Team. She also garnered UVa's 2000-2001 Ralph Sampson Scholarship Award which is given annually to a third-year student-athlete who best demonstrates excellence in academics, leadership, and athletics.
Dennis, who served as a captain in 2002, holds the ACC record for career doubles (58) and walks (144) and is second all-time in home runs (29) and RBI (158). In addition to establishing Virginia's career marks in doubles, walks, home runs and RBI, she holds the record for total bases (414). Dennis is second all-time at UVa in career batting average at .363 (255-703), hits (255), at-bats (703), and games played (251). She also owns her fair share of single season school records, including batting average (.417 - 73-175), total bases (134), home runs (13), RBI (58), walks (54) and doubles (18). Dennis was a dominating pitcher as well, finishing her career with a 57-37 record with 18 shutouts and a 1.36 ERA. She struck out 702 batters in 612 career innings pitched.
