Softball Wraps Up ACC Home Schedule with Georgia Tech

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (14-28, 3-15 ACC) will play its final home series of the season beginning Friday when they host ACC foe Georgia Tech (12-28, 5-10 ACC) at The Park. Friday’s series opener is slated for a 6 p.m. first pitch and will be carried live on ACC Network Extra.

Game Coverage: Friday night’s contest will air on ACC Network Extra which is available to authenticated subscribers of ESPN3 through WatchESPN and the ESPN app. Live statistics for all three games are available on

Promotions: Kids can run the bases at the conclusion of Saturday’s game and the team will stick around for a postgame autograph session on the field. Fans are encouraged to stay after Sunday’s game for a special postgame ceremony to honor Virginia’s six seniors.

• Friday will be the 82nd meeting between Virginia and Georgia Tech.
• The Georgia Tech series will be the final home series of the season for Virginia.
• On Sunday, Virginia will honor its seniors Kinza Baad, Kaitlin Fitzgerald, Iyana Hughes, Madison Labshere, McKall Miller and Katie Park with a postgame ceremony.
• Georgia Tech and Virginia are looking to end winless streaks of three and two respectively.
• Virginia leads the ACC in doubles (64) and is second in the league in triples (9).

Game Notes
Midweek Recap: The Cavaliers were held scoreless in a midweek home-and-home series against Liberty. On Tuesday (April 11) in Lynchburg, the Flames blanked Virginia 4-0 and did the majority of its damage on offense with a three-run, fifth inning. Liberty pitcher Kenzie Friesen limited the Cavaliers to just two hits in Wednesday’s 3-0 win in Charlottesville.

Series History: Georgia Tech and Virginia have traded series victories the past two seasons. The Cavaliers won both games of a doubleheader last season in Atlanta, including a 13-1 victory in game two. The 13 runs were the most by the Cavaliers against Georgia Tech in the previous 79 meetings. Georgia Tech holds a 41-40 advantage in the all-time series that began in 1989.

ACC Standouts: In ACC play this season, Katie Park is the top Cavalier with a .347 batting average (17-for-49). Three of her six home runs have come against league foes and she has driven in a team-high, nine runs. Starting all 15 games at first base in ACC games, junior Danni Ingraham is batting .327 (16-for-49) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

Bat on the Ball: Despite gathering just two hits in Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Liberty, the Cavaliers struck out only once. Virginia has fanned two or less times in 10 games this season including a strikeout-less game against Arizona State on Feb. 9.

Riding the Hot Hand: Sophomore pitcher Erika Osherow tossed her fourth-straight complete game in Wednesday’s loss to Liberty. She allowed just one earned run and struck out six batters. In her last 14 innings pitched she’s surrendered three earned runs and struck out eight. She currently leads the ACC in appearances with 33.

Looking ahead: After a three-game home series against Georgia Tech, Virginia will play six of its final eight regular season games on the road. The Cavaliers travel to Notre Dame and Louisville for three-game series.
