CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia (16-29) will wrap up a five-game home stand on Tuesday night when it hosts Georgetown (11-27) in a non-conference matchup at The Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
- Tuesday marks the third meeting ever between Georgetown and Virginia.
- Both previous meetings have been in Charlottesville with Virginia taking the most recent duel, 8-4 on March 24, 2011.
- Virginia is seeking a win in its third-straight game.
- Georgetown is currently on a six-game losing streak with its last win coming on April 8.
- Saturday’s walk-off victory against Georgia Tech was Virginia’s seventh win in its final at bat.
- Virginia is tied for seventh in the country with 72 doubles this season.
Weekend Recap: The Cavaliers picked up their first ACC series win of the season by winning the last two games of a three-game set with Georgia Tech. It marked the second-straight season Virginia taken two games from the Yellow Jackets.
Comeback Kids: Virginia erased 2-0 deficits in game two and again in game three to clinch the series in dramatic fashion. On Saturday (April 15), the Cavaliers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in a walk-off win. All three runs crossed with two outs. Virginia plated four runs in a fifth inning rally in a 4-2 win in the series finale on Sunday (April 16).
Super Senior: Kaitlin Fitzgerald delivered a single to right field that scored Katie Park for the game-winning run on Saturday (April 15) against Georgia Tech. The single fell in front of the right fielder and allowed Park to score from second base. Fitzgerald has been at the plate for three of the four walk-off victories this season.
Upper Third: The top three spots in the UVA lineup, occupied by Allison Davis, Park and Fitzgerald each had a hit in all three games against Georgia Tech. The trio combined to go 14-for-32 (.438) with six RBIs and five runs scored. They accounted for 14 of the 24 Cavalier hits on the weekend.
Home Run Race: Junior Danni Ingraham’s sixth home run of the season put the Cavaliers in front for good in Sunday’s series-clinching win. She joined Park, McKall Miller and Olivia Gott for the team lead. It was Ingraham’s 20th career home run which tied her with Park for eighth on Virginia’s career home run list.
Familiar Foes: Georgetown and Virginia have played three common opponents this season, Towson, Seton Hall and UNCW. The Hoyas were swept in a doubleheader against Towson and also lost two out of three against Seton Hall in Big East Conference play. Virginia is 2-3 against the three common opponents with wins over Seton Hall and Towson while Georgetown is 1-5.
Looking Ahead: Virginia continues ACC play this weekend with a three-game series at Notre Dame. The Cavaliers will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and conclude their stay in South Bend on Sunday with a first pitch scheduled for noon.
