How has the transition been for you as a mid-year transfer to UVa?
So far so good! I love this place. I was so fortunate to have a built-in family (the team) to help me get settled in. I think I called Whit three times on the first day of class "Where's this?" "Where's that?" Plus I had 14 immediate friends, which was nice.
What is your favorite restaurant?
A restaurant on Long Beach Island called Buckalews. They have the BEST chicken cheese steaks.
If you could travel back in time, what era would you visit?
The mid to late 1700's. I think it'd be fascinating to see what this country was like in its founding.
My favorite toy as a kid was...
A four-foot tall stuffed pony named Sun-Runner. My Godfather bought him for me at FAO Schwarz on my first trip to NYC. He's still sitting on my bed at home.
Which actress would you pick to play you in a movie?
Julia Roberts. She's a great actress and I usually like her movies.
What is your favorite hobby?
Horseback riding. I used to ride competitively when I was younger. Now I don't have much time for it, but its something I look forward to doing more when I graduate.
Best non-athletic talent...
I'm a tremendous parallel parker. I'm a big fan of what I call the "jersey love tap," - a little bumper nudge to the car in front or behind me. My neighbors might not like this approach, but it works well.
Before every game I always...
Go to Starbucks and get an iced coffee and a raspberry scone. Actually, I do that before I do almost anything.
My favorite thing I always pack for a roadtrip is...
My laptop. I bought a new Mac just before I came to UVA. It's the best.
The word that best describes myself is...
Determined. Once I set a goal for myself, I generally don't stop until I've reached it.
The thing in life I am most thankful for is...
I know it's cliché, but my family. They are the best. My parents are perhaps the most computer illiterate people on the planet but they've mastered the scary world of gametracker and ACC Select just to watch me play. If you've ever watched my Dad attempt to type an email, you understand how significant that is. I couldn't ask for more supportive and loving parents- and my sister's pretty okay too.
What sport would you play if you didn't play softball and why?
Tennis. When we were stranded in Tucson, a few of us had tennis lessons with a real-live tennis pro. I think we were a bit of a challenge for him, (he's probably still searching for the balls we hit over his backyard fence), but we had so much fun. Plus, tennis players have the best wardrobes.
Most people would be surprised that I...
I had a rattail from the time my hair was long enough to be mutilated into one- until age 6. My Mom had one too, thus we were matching. I often tell her that cutting a child's hair in such a manner could be construed as child abuse. She insists that if the rattail was the worst part of my childhood she and my dad did fairly well. I still think someone should have intervened!
What do you love most about UVa and why?
The thing I love most about UVA is the architecture. I know I'm not being very creative with this answer, but everyday I walk to class along the Lawn, and even at 8 a.m., I'm struck by how gorgeous grounds are. Lindsey's [Preuss] answer is far better than mine. If I wasn't scared of an Honor Code infraction, I'd copy and paste it.
