Boiko and White Named ACC Doubles Champion

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia women's tennis doubles team of Paige Boiko and Kendall White has been recognized as Atlantic Coast Conference No. 2 doubles champion for the 1997 spring season.

Boiko, a sophomore from Miami (Palmetto High School), and White, a junior from Washington, D.C. (St. Andrew's), compiled a 5-3 conference record at No. 2 this spring. They have a 20-8 overall record this season. They are Virginia's first ACC doubles champion since Alison Cohen and Ly-Lan Schofield at No. 2 in 1993.

Christy Pomeroy and Pam Carton are the ACC runner-up at No. 3 doubles. Pomeroy, a senior from Midlothian, Va. (Midlothian H.S.) and Carton, a junior from Millburn, N.J. (Millburn H.S), posted a 4-4 record in the conference at No. 3. They are 14-10 overall this season.

Virginia's men's tennis team also had one ACC runner-up this spring--Bear Schofield and Hyon Yoo at No. 2 doubles. Schofield, a junior from McLean, Va. (Langley H.S.) and Yoo, a sophomore from Rockville, Md. (Wheaton H.S.), were 5-2 in the league at No. 2 this spring. They are currently 12-2 overall this season.
