Cavalier Women's Tennis Falls at No. 6 Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 55 ranked Virginia women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, falling to No. 6 Vanderbilt 5-2 at the Currey Tennis Center. The loss drops the Cavaliers' record to 1-1 on the season.

The Cavaliers fell behind early, losing the doubles point to the Commodores (2-0). The No. 23 ranked team of Diana Srebrovic (Oakville, Ont.) and Douglas Wink (Greensboro, N.C.) won at the No. 1 position, downing the No. 35 ranked team of Annie Menees and Audra Falk 8-6. However, the Commodores captured wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to win the point.

In singles, Vanderbilt won at No. 5 and No. 2 to increase the lead to 3-0. Then, at No. 1 singles, No. 67 ranked Srebrovic scored an upset of No. 38 ranked Falk, 6-4, 7-6. The Commodores' win at No. 3 singles clinched the match for Vanderbilt. Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) earned the second point for the Cavaliers, rallying for a win over Menees at No. 4 singles in the final match on the courts.

Virginia will return to action on February 5, when the Cavaliers open their home schedule by hosting Old Dominion at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
