NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 31 ranked Virginia tennis team dropped its first match of the season, falling at No. 12 Vanderbilt 7-0 on Sunday. The Cavaliers went 1-1 on their opening weekend of the season, after defeating Michigan State 7-0 a day earlier.

The No. 12 Commodores opened the match strong, sweeping the three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Vanderbilt (2-0) took that momentum into singles, winning all six singles matches to complete the win.

Virginia (1-1) will return to action in two weeks as they open their 2004 home schedule. The Cavaliers will host Richmond on January 30 and Marshall on January 31. Both matches will be held at the Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville.
