MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Virginia women's tennis team defeated Michigan State, 4-0, at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Friday night at Lagoon Park.

Virginia earned the doubles point and received singles victories from freshman Julia Elbaba (Oyster Bay, N.Y.), junior Li Xi (Kunming, China) and senior Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) to improve to 4-6. Michigan State falls to 10-4.

Senior Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and freshman Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) defeated Marina Bohrer and Catherine Parenteau 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Elbaba and Xi clinched the point for the second consecutive match by defeating Emily Meyers and Julianne Gruber 8-2 at No. 3.

Elbaba beat Parenteau 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Xi defeated Olga Chernova 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Fuccillo ended the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Michaela Silesova at No. 6.

Virginia plays No. 34 Yale in the semifinals of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Saturday, March 16. First serve is set for 12 p.m. ET.
