Women's Tennis Defeats Oregon 6-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE - The No. 37 Virginia women's tennis team beat out Oregon 6-1 Monday, the second match of their four match homestand, after defeating Virginia Tech last Wednesday. The win moves the Cavaliers' record to 11-4 for the season.

Virginia started the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. The ranked Cavalier duo of No. 40 Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J.) won at No. 1 doubles while No. 38 Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) and first-years Lauren Bruch (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Montgomery (Charlottesville, Va.) won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles respectively.

In singles, the Cavaliers took wins for five of the six matches. Tuchband defeated Courtney Nagle 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 position, followed by wins from K. James, Marta Bechliwanis, and Dora Bechliwanis at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles. Williams topped off the match by defeating Daria Panova 6-7, 6-3 (10-1) at the No. 1 position.

Virginia continues play with a home match on Friday, March 28th as they take on Georgia Tech at the Snyder Tennis Center at 2:00pm.
