ATLANTA, Ga. - The 55th-ranked University of Virginia women's tennis team fell 8-1 to the 27th-ranked Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech on Saturday, April 1, at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in Atlanta, Ga. With the loss, the Cavaliers record is now 10-6 on the season and 0-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Georgia Tech improves its record to 11-5 and 2-3 in the ACC.

The Cavaliers lone victory came in doubles action. The Yellow Jackets took the remaining two doubles matches and all six singles matches for the 8-1 win.

The 'Hoos lost all six singles matches against Georgia Tech. At #1 singles, second-year Amy O'Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) fell 7-6 (5), 6-2 to Sabrina Pardo. Virginia third-year Christie Schweer (Houston, Texas/Memorial) lost 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 to GT's Mysti Morris at #2. In the third singles slot, first-year Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) found tough competition with Bobbi Gutherie losing 6-1, 7-5. Georgia Tech's Jamie Wong defeated third-year Leslie Cook (Boynton Beach, Fla./Lake Worth Christian) 6-4, 6-0 at #4. First-year Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) lost her singles match at #5 in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Laura Ozolins. UVa completed singles play with third-year Kelly Weaver (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) dropping 6-4, 6-0 decision at #6 to Charlotte Pernet.

The Cavaliers won one of three doubles matches. Tuchband and Weaver won a close match at #3 doubles over Georgia Tech's Ozolins and Pernet 9-8 (2). In #1 doubles, Cook and Schweer were not as fortunate, losing a tough match, 9-8 (5) to Pardo and Guthrie. Second-year Christine Kim (McLean, Va./Bishop Ireton) and O'Donnell fell 8-4 to Morris and Wong at #2 doubles.

Virginia returns to action on Sunday, April 2 when it competes against 39th-ranked Clemson in Clemson, S.C. at 12:00 noon. The Cavaliers return to action in Charlottesville on Saturday, April 8, when they take on the 11th-ranked Blue Devils of Duke at 11:00 a.m. at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center.
