UVa Women's Tennis Undefeated on First Day of Bulldog Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - The Virginia women's tennis team went unbeaten on the first day of play at the Bulldog Classic on Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Center. The Cavaliers won doubles matches and four singles matches against Indiana.

In doubles, the team of Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) and Maci Epstein (Winter Park, Fla.) topped Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczek 8-3. Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) and Li Xi (Kunming, China) teamed to down Gabrielle Rubenstein and Jithmie Jayawickrema 8-5.

In singles, three players won in straight sets. Stephanie Nauta (Galveston, Texas) downed Sophie Garre 6-2, 6-2, Vierra topped Chupa 6-0, 6-1 and Fuccillo defeated Rubenstein 6-3, 6-0. Xi added a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Alecia Garre to complete the undefeated day.

The tournament, which also includes players from host Georgia, runs through Sunday.
