Women's Tennis Players Fall At ITA East Region Championships

BOSTON -- The University of Virginia women's tennis team had all three of its players lose their second round singles matches at the 1999 ITA East Region Tennis Championships on Saturday evening at Harvard University. Third year Leslie Cook (Boynton Beach, Fla./Lake Worth Christian), second year Amy O'Donnell (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) and first year Henriette Williams (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) each lost their matches in straight sets.

Cook lost to Marshall's Anna Mitina 6-0, 6-2 after defeating Sheri Puppo of James Madison 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round on Saturday morning. O'Donnell fell to Harvard's Sanaz Ghazal 6-2, 6-1, while Williams dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Boston College's Kiren Fernando. O'Donnell and Williams both received first round byes.

The 1999 ITA East Region Tennis Championships are being held at Harvard University and will run through Tuesday, November 9.
