Cook & Schweer Fall in Eastern Regional Semifinals

WILLIAMSBURG, VA--The University of Virginia women's tennis doubles tandem of Leslie Cook and Christie Schweer fell this afternoon in the semifinals of the Rolex Eastern Regional Women's Tennis Championship at the McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center on the campus of the College of William & Mary.

The two Cavalier freshmen lost to the fifth-seeded team of Lesia Bilak and Bridgett Merrick of Richmond 6-4, 6-2. The Richmond squad upset the top-seeded team of Lauren Niklaus and Michelle O of William & Mary 7-6(5), 6-2 to win the regional championship. They earned an automatic bid to the national indoor tournament in Dallas, Texas, on Feb. 5-8.

Joining them will be singles finalists Martina Nedelkova of Virginia Commonwealth and Harvard's Ivy Wang. Nedelkova upset the 49th-ranked Wang 6-0, 6-3 for the singles championship.

Four Cavaliers competed in the singles draw. Paige Boiko and Stacy Gingold advanced to the round of 16 before falling. Cook and Schweer both lost their opening matches.
