Boiko Advances at Women's National Clay Court Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Virginia women's tennis player Paige Boiko moved one step closer to advancing into the main draw at the ITA National Clay Court Championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla., today.

Boiko defeated Kate Dunlevy of Ohio State 6-4, 6-3 in the first round of qualifying singles play.

Boiko will face Aarthi Venkatesan of Georgia Wednesday. Venkatesan, a freshman from Casseldine, Australia, is ranked 55th in the Rolex preseason singles rankings. The winner will advance into the main draw that begins on Thursday (Oct. 2).

Virginia junior Stacy Gingold was not as fortunate today. She was eliminated by Selin Nassi of Miami 6-2, 6-3.
