Women's Tennis Defeats Old Dominion

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The University of Virginia women's tennis team opened its spring dual match season in fine fashion late Saturday night (Feb. 7) with an 8-1 win over Old Dominion at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach.

The Cavaliers put the match away early by sweeping all six singles matches in straight sets. The win was all the more impressive for head coach Phil Rogers' squad as he started three freshmen. Among the rookies gaining wins were Leslie Cook at #4, Christie Schweer at #5 and Kelly Weaver at #6.

Paige Boiko continued her hot play by winning for the 10th time in her last 12 matches with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Luciana Araujo at #1.

Old Dominion prevented the shutout as Katarina Kramaric and Raquel Araujo defeated Boiko and Kendall White at #2 doubles 8-5.

The Cavaliers return to action Friday night (Feb. 13) against Illinois at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM.
