Cavaliers Conclude Play at UVa Winter Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia women's tennis team concluded play at the UVa Winter Invitational on Monday with another strong performance at the season opening event at the Boar's Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers won eight singles matches and two doubles matches against LSU during Monday's action.

Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) clinched the singles title at the tournament as she rallied from down 5-2 in the third set for a 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 win over No. 33 Whitney Wolf of LSU in Flight A. Wolf was the tournament runner-up, while Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) was third as she concluded an undefeated weekend with a win in Flight B.

Maria Fuccillo (Rockville, Md.) won in Flight D, Caryssa Peretz (Cherry Hill, N.J.) won in Flight E, and Marjorie Baker (Washington, D.C.) in Flight H to also go 3-0 on the weekend. In addition, Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) won in Flight C, Rashmi Teltumbde (Mumbai, India) won in Flight F and Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) won in Flight G on Monday.

In doubles, the team of Tomljanovic and Fraser won in Flight B and the duo of Vierra and Hardenbergh won in Flight C.

Virginia begins the dual match season on Saturday when it hosts a doubleheader at the Boyd Tinsley Courts. At 11 a.m., the Cavaliers open the season against No. 62 Brown, followed at 4 p.m. with a match against Richmond.
